Company Overview
Founded in 1870, Penhaligon’s is a luxury retailer of classic English scents and luxury gifts. Penhaligons stands for style, integrity, quality and discretion.
William Penhaligon, the founder, was a master perfumer at a time when London led the world in luxury. Five generations ago Guerlain, Houbigant and Coty sent their sons to London to learn about the luxury perfumery business.
Penhaligons scents are made in England using the finest essential oils and precious, rare ingredients. Many date back to the hand-written original formulas inherited from William Penhaligon.
The iconic bottle, in use since the company began, is now recognised throughout the world.
Situation
Penhaligons faced up to the challenge of, not only relocation into new purpose built premises, but also the demands of having to implement a modern networking infrastructure. Penhaligons requirements were typical of a modern, progressive organisation where IT systems provide the backbone to internal / external messaging, communication and collaboration. They chose LANIX comprehensive facility management experience to undertake the task on their behalf.
Solution
Central to Penhaligons operation in the UK is their brand new international headquarters. It is here that LANIX afforded the opportunity to install a complete end-to-end networking infrastructure to support the everyday messaging, data management and collaboration needs of the organisation.
The tasks were successfully project managed from the planning stage right through to test and system rollout. The system was successfully migrated from Novell Netware and GroupWise to Windows Server 2003 and Exchange 2003. A Checkpoint 1 firewall was placed on the network perimeter, and a VPN was configured to connect to various remote branches.
Outcome
With the continued facility management services provided by LANIX, Penhaligons are always at the leading edge of the technology. Indeed LANIX have provided further infrastructure improvements like Virtual Private Network, Managed ADSL Services, Video Conferencing Solutions, Stock Forecasting solutions, Firewall Management, Apple MAC integration, and disaster recovery procedures.
To this day LANIX continues to work alongside Penhaligon’s. LANIX facilitated their move to their new Head Quarters in Knightsbridge in 2006. Penhaligon’s have also acquired a new office in which their Mail Order operation runs, based in Central London. LANIX has deployed a LAN-to-LAN VPN connection between the two branches, together with a Terminal Server hosted at HQ.
LANIX is now currently working with Penhaligon’s and their new EPOS software vendor, in rolling out their brand new EPOS system for all of their stores and concessions, which are dotted around the UK. We have also taken on support for all of Penhaligon’s outlets, and are with them every step of the way in this new project.
